Join Araucaria’s dances of Chile in celebration of Chile’s Independence Day. Araucaria will perform a selection of dances representing Chile’s rich folklore.

Based in San Francisco, California, Araucaria has been performing together for more than twelve years. Araucaria shares traditional folk dances from Chile, with the diverse community of the Bay Area. Taken from the name of a native tree found in southern Chile and Tierra del Fuego, Araucaria performs dances representative of the cold and rainy region of Chiloe, in the south, the sunny and productive valleys in the central region, the desert and festive andes mountains in the north, and also dances of Easter Island. Araucaria shares a distinct sample of dances representing Chile’s diverse geography and culture.

The salseros putting on this event, Alfredo “Felix”, DJ Antonio “La Conga” and instructor / performer Joel Dominguez, are all members of our local mambo community. Alfredo “Felix” is the photographer taking pictures of performances and dance events. DJ Antonio “La Conga” is a local DJ specializing in the classic salsa music, even collecting songs that are only available on original vinyl/records. And Joel Dominguez is a popular local dancer who teaches and performs as well.

They invite all the dancers to come and enjoy this classic salsa social where the emphasis is on the pure music and dancing that we all love. The event is held in a good size dance studio with an excellent wooden dance floor and a professional sound system.

Casino Rueda is a really fun dance. However, it is very rare that you see it done and people who know how to do it are even more rare. This group Ritmos Latinos performed it in Ankara, Turkey. They are a pretty good example of Casino Rueda and for the most part they are together on their moves. That is probably the hardest part of Rueda is getting all the couples doing the same thing at the same time. I consider it the syncronized swimming of salsa dancing.

If you ever come across a Casino Rueda class… take it!

We had a group of 30 students that all wanted to perform in a show last December and we were not exactly sure how we were going to teach 15 couples a routine that would look good. The show was called Dancing for a Cause and it benefited the Make a Wish Foundation and we wanted to make sure it was a really good performance. After a decent amount of panicking over what we were going to do with 30 students and only about a month to prepare, we remembered that Jay knew Casino Rueda quite well.

The show went so well that 7 months later we are STILL getting compliments!

It never fails to amaze me how popular Salsa dancing really is around the world.  In Burgas, Bulgaria the Black Sea Salsa Festival is going on. If anyone went to the Black Sea Salsa Festival let me know. I would love to hear how it was.

The 2nd Black Sea Salsa Festival will be held on August 14-16 as part of the big music and dance event “Spirit of Burgas”. Bourgas, being the second largest seaside city in Bulgaria will host the Festival on its very beach. There will be a lot of dancing, live music, shows and partying.

I ran across this web site and as I was looking through it, realized this is the type of Salsa community that every city would be blessed to have. They are organized with a lot of clear activities, they have community service aspect with Salsa for the Kids and Salsa Prom, they are a connector for all the relevant activities in Vancouver for Salsa dancers. They are an information only site but they take great care of their constituents.

Salsa Dancing in Vancouver, Canada

17 Days to go until the Turkish International Salsa Congress in Antalya! It is held at a place called The I and is set up to be a lot of fun this year. There will be over thirty Salsa Dancers from around the world performing throughout the event! Live Band “The New Swing Sextet” from New York will be performing both days and they are really fun to listen to!

There will be a fun dress code for each night and all attendees are asked to follow it. It will be sporty and fun and will be a fun twist to see everyone dressed in theme. The dress code is a follows. 
FRIDAY NIGHT: White and/or Pink (Either Pink or White or both)
SATURDAY NIGHT: Salsa T-Shirt (Any T-Shirt with Salsa written on it)
SUNDAY NIGHT: Dress to Impress (Elegant Outfit)

The world famous Los Angeles World Salsa Congress is rapidly approaching. If you haven’t already got you passes to this event, you had better jump on them ASAP. With it only being 3 weeks away, you had better take action soon- There are going to be a lot of great workshops and even better bands and performances this year. It is being held at the Radisson Hotel right by LAX this year, they still have space available if you want to stay there, but HURRY!! The events starts Thursday May 21 and will run until Sunday May-24. There will be a pre party held Wednesday night at one of the local clubs but the location has yet to be disclosed.
