Event Description:

Couture Dance Alliance directed by Luis Aguilar will be hosting a pre-congress Salsa Social at the Glas Kat Lounge. Enjoy dancing, performances, and hot Latin music.

As I watched it I found myself saying… their dancing pretty good but I would never classify it as “amazing.” Most of the other people I found who were commenting on the salsa video were also unimpressed. It is difficult for salsa dancers to really impress anyone who knows what they are looking at because we get to see so much great salsa dancing.

Watching it further, I realized the dancers were making some very common mistakes. For example, they blurred a lot of their moves together, got caught up in how “fast” the song is and didn’t leave themselves and opportunity to style or to really follow the music. They did some things well though. It was a fast salsa song, this isn’t one of those salsa songs you fall asleep to, you know the ones I am talking about. They also had some pretty cool moves, there was a flip about halfway through that was pretty cool.

My opinion, pretty good but not amazing, they didn’t have anything that I haven’t seen or that is unique.

I give them a 6.5 on a scale of 1 to 10

A very popular thing to do for Salsa dancers to do is to go to a costume Salsa dance Halloween party. They are pretty fun, although sometimes you can’t recognize who you are dancing with and quite often your costume gets tangled in someone’s high heel… but none the less, Salsa dance Halloween parties rock! At the end of the post I added  a fun little Halloween Salsa performance for your Halloween enjoyment…

Pay specific attention to his lead and his timing. From the video it looks like he has a soft but effective lead. He is not afraid to really tell the lady what he wants her to do, but he is not pushing her he is guiding her into every move. He also says on time regardless of the fact that he is obviously not doing a basic step. Another point of interest is that he isn’t doing really complicated moves and turn patterns. You see him doing a lot of basic girls right turns and cross body leads. He is not dancing outside of his skill level and the reason he looks good is because of this. I will write a blog post about this a little later and elaborate.

He really is proof that you can do anything you set your mind to and those people who say they can’t dance, lol at least they have two legs! Anyone can be really great at Salsa dancing. You just have to put your mind to it.

I think I need a mustache like this guy, and some flashing lights. I think this kind of energy is what Salsa is all about, minus the platinum disco pants, spray on tan and the “Bang Bang.”

Also it will be very important for the guy to keep count with his feet during the entire turn pattern so as not to end the turn on the wrong count.
