This is a performance from the Paris Mambo Festival in which Mouaze & Kristel performed their world famous ”OBABAO.”
This is a very rich afro-cuban performance with a lot of emphasis of the drums. You will be able to pick up on the themes of sexual frustration and struggle between the two dancers as well as the courting and wooing that is the heart and soul of the Guaguancó. Almost immediately it becomes evident that this performance is in a league of it’s own.
I had a friend of mine send me this video a few days ago as we were discussing the pros and cons as well as the difference between dramatic theatre types of Salsa performances and the flashy over the top breeds. We were going back and forth about what kinds of Salsa performances and dancers really speak to our souls but our debate halted dead in its tracks after I watched this video. I noticed that I always looked for the theatre style elements in the performances an we both agreed that in order for any performance to be outstanding, there has to be a tale told between two dancers that creates depth.
While our styles still differ, we reached an agreement that the mechanics of a good Salsa performance is purely personal preference. I hope you enjoy this video, it is one of the best I have ever seen!
